- Observers and other participants were welcomed and introduced.
- Sal Peritore was recognized for his longtime service to NCC MERP as the delegate from the GPhA.
- The agenda was approved as reordered and meeting summary from June was approved with minor revisions.
- New membership request approved for:
- American College of Physicians Foundation
- Individual membership renewal approved for:
- Deborah Nadzam, PhD, RN, FAAN
- Request for permission to list web site on consumer page approved.
- Posting of Pediatric Medication Safety links on NCC MERP web site to other web sites under a
"Tools and Resources" category approved.
- Weight based dosing was discussed and additional information was needed for Council action.
Information will be brought back to the Council by 1/1/2010 for further discussion at February
meeting.
- A proposal for an AHRQ conference grant on "Medication Error Rates vs. Medication Error
Reporting Rates" will be drafted by 11/15/2009.
- A Task Force was established to review the Rules and Procedures for possible changes and
updating.
- A Task Force was empaneled for the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of NCC MERP.
- Historical Report from the 10th Anniversary will be updated by 11/15/2009
- Focus of Organizational Hot Topics include:
- Draft of opposition to criminalizing medication errors due by 11/5/2009 Organizational positions on this topic due to Vice Chair by 1/1/2009 Draft Statement on this topic due out to NCC MERP membership by 12/15/2009 - Members comments integrated and final draft out for vote before February meeting
- Medication reconciliation draft document due by 2/3/2010 for discussion at February meeting
- Draft document on harmonizing AHRQ Common Formats with the NCC MERP Taxonomy due by 1/1/2010 for discussion at February meeting
- Draft proposal for a National Alert Network for Serious Medication Errors due 1/1/2010 for presentation at February meeting
- Support document on use of the metric system for medication dosing draft due 1/1/2010 for February meeting
- DoD request for use of alternative language (medication event vs. medication error) in NCC MERP
Category Index was approved.
- Taxonomy terminology will be reviewed and updated if needed.
