Council Launches Web Site
August 24, 1998 The National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (Council) has created its own web site on the internet and encourages public response to its contents at http://www.nccmerp.org. In addition to providing information about the Council to all interested parties, the site offers definitions and current information to the public about medication errors, by topic, as follows:
- About NCC MERP
- About Medication Errors
- Council Recommendations
- Press Releases
- Report a Medication Error
The Council was founded in 1995 to promote the reporting, understanding and prevention of medication errors. The Council's goals are to examine and evaluate the causes of medication errors; increase awareness of medication errors and methods of prevention throughout the health care system; recommend strategies relative to system modifications, practice standards and guidelines; stimulate development and use of medication error reporting and evaluation systems; and stimulate reporting to a national system for review, analysis and development of recommendations to reduce and prevent medication errors.
Seventeen (17) health related organizations, societies and agencies are represented on the Council, including medicine, pharmacy and nursing groups, a consumer group, standards-setting and federal regulatory bodies, and manufacturers. The web site offers the Council membership categories, instructions for becoming a member and links to member sites.
For additional information about the Council, its activities or membership, contact Chairperson Deborah Nadzam or Council Secretary Diane D. Cousins (301/816-8215).
